ANZAC weekend rates soar as Apex undercuts rivals
The observed ANZAC Day holiday in late April 2027 is set to drive strong demand for domestic travel across New Zealand. Auckland Airport sees a major spike in family holidays and short breaks during this time. Our report analyses 110 rental listings to uncover what travellers can expect to pay for a seven-day hire. Prices vary wildly depending on the provider and vehicle size, requiring careful planning to secure a fair deal.
The overall median price sits at a hefty $1569, highlighting a premium market driven by the long weekend. A clear two-tier market exists: budget-friendly suppliers like Apex average just $622, while major brands such as Alamo and Enterprise average closer to $2963. Shoppers willing to compare rates across different providers can easily save over $2000 on the exact same dates.
The Auckland fleet is heavily concentrated around five-seat passenger cars, making up 86 of the 110 listings we analysed. Hybrid vehicles are gaining ground with 17 cars available, though traditional petrol still rules the roost. Travellers needing a people-mover should brace for higher costs, as eight-seat options are scarce and average significantly more than standard five-seaters.
