Chinese New Year in Auckland City: ten summer days, one smart booking
February is when Auckland looks its best. The breeze off the Waitemata turns warm and dusk drifts past eight, and red lanterns go up around the city for Chinese New Year. Families build whole trips around the festival and the late-summer beaches, and on changeover days the rental counters at the airport gate have queues out the door. We priced Auckland City car rental for the ten nights from 8 to 18 February 2027 and found thirteen of the fifteen listings we tracked already showing nothing available, four months out. The two that remain, both with Ezi, run between $2180 and $2240 for the whole stay.
Ezi owns this window outright. It is the only supplier with cars to sell, and the $60 between its two quotes works out to a 3% spread, small enough that comparison shopping is over before it starts. Every dollar of the total is base fare plus GST, and nothing is added for location or registration, so the number on the screen is the number on your card. The smart move is to quit hunting for a cheaper desk and spend that energy deciding between the Corolla Cross and the RAV4.
The fleet leans hybrid, 8 of the 15 listings, and that suits Auckland's stop-start motorways. The lone EV only makes sense if your plans stay inside the city's charging map. Thirteen of the cars seat five, so a party of six has exactly one 7-seater and one 9-seater to fight over, and at these availability levels neither will last the week. Whatever you land on, pack soft bags instead of hard suitcases, and pick the car up in the morning before the counter queue builds.
